Common Thread: A Storytelling Event

  • Awaken Church 5295 Juneau Street Anchorage, AK, 99518 United States (map)

Awaken Church presents Common Thread. A storytelling event with food, live music, and more. The theme of the night is stories of wounds, obstacles, and resiliency.

Our hope for this event is to encourage the community to embrace vulnerability, to shed light on topics that are not typically discussed in churches, and to connect and offer resources for those who relate to the stories that are shared.

This is an event born out of the reality that there is a lack of conversation around challenging topics. We know there’s trauma in our lives and the lives of people around us and we care. We can so easily avoid these topics because we don’t know everything and we’re afraid to say something wrong. We know that raw vulnerability without intention can do more harm than good. Through this event, we seek the middle ground in order to partner with people who have experienced trauma/obstacles/hardship because we are those people too. We want to see you, to hear you, and to support you, wherever you are at and whatever you’ve been through.

We hope that you will invite your friends to this event and come with an open-mind to hear the challenging, yet hopeful stories from within our own community.

While the event will be free, we will have a limited number of tickets available to reserve, starting on April 7th. You need to RSVP for a ticket if you plan to attend. Fill out the form below to RSVP. We will send out a confirmation email and reminder a few days before the event. We will not use your email for any other purpose.

*Trigger Warning: While the purpose of this event is to create a space of vulnerability and promote healing, some stories will include instances of trauma, so it may not be suitable for all audiences.

If you have specific questions regarding the event or the topics of the stories, you can email info@awakenalaska.com.
